Austrailans David Boon, Geoff Marsh and Dean Jones were the first to wear the grill in 1987. Commonly known thereafter as the "Atherton Grill". It was then complimented in 1990 by the fisrt lightweight 'one size fits all' adjustable helmet - becoming arguably the most popular amongst first class cricketers.

Masuri continue to be development leaders with the introduction of the first titanium grill and a fielding grill, as worn by the England short leg fielders and a wicket keeping helmet.
